  5. A Surreal Season of Growth: My Study Abroad Experience in Seville
Study abroad in Spain with IFSAStudy abroad in Spain with IFSA

Studying abroad in Seville with IFSA was truly one of the best time periods of my life. I honestly didn鈥檛 think I鈥檇 ever be able to do something like this鈥攂ut with God鈥檚 help, hard work, and the support of amazing people, I made it happen.

Experiencing Spanish culture

One of the first moments that stood out was our trip to C贸rdoba. I was still adjusting and feeling a bit shy in the group, but everything about the day鈥攆rom the traditional Spanish breakfast to the tour of the Cathedral-Mosque鈥攚as unforgettable. During our free time, I wandered the gardens of the Alc谩zar and felt this quiet, powerful encounter with the Lord. That moment reminded me I wasn鈥檛 alone and that I鈥檓 fully known and loved by Him, even when I feel out of place.

IFSA did an amazing job immersing us in Spanish culture. From our classes to local tours like the one we did on Semana Santa (Holy Week), everything helped us feel connected to the city. Even the little things鈥攍ike helping us get our phone plans and showing us around the university鈥攎ade a difference. Our program director, Danny, was incredible. He cared so much about us and always made sure we felt supported.

I also had the chance to intern as an international receptionist, which gave me real-world experience in the hospitality field. It was challenging and rewarding to work in a different culture, and I grew so much in my communication and confidence.

Spiritual growth

Outside of the program, I also made personal excursions to other countries around Europe. Traveling on my own taught me to be resourceful, flexible, and open to new experiences. But more than that, it was a time of deep spiritual growth. Visiting churches, walking through cathedrals, and just spending quiet time in prayer in different places brought me closer to Jesus. Being in such a deeply Catholic part of the world stirred something in me and helped me grow in my relationship with Him in ways I didn鈥檛 expect.

This program helped me grow not just academically, but personally and spiritually, too. I came back more confident, more independent, and with a deeper love for people, cultures, and my faith. I鈥檓 extremely thankful to IFSA for giving me this opportunity. It was a surreal experience. I traveled, learned, met amazing people, and created memories I鈥檒l never forget.

If you鈥檙e thinking about studying abroad鈥攕ay yes. Trust the process, take the leap, and let God surprise you. If He placed the dream in your heart, He鈥檒l open the doors.
